A discussion titled ‘The Role of Politicians in Ensuring Human Rights’ was held at the National Press Club to assess the current political instability and human rights situation and determine necessary actions. The event was organized by the World Human Rights Organization – Bangladesh (WHROB) on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM, in the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club.
The discussion was graced by BNP National Standing Committee Member Salah Uddin Ahmed as the chief guest. WHROB Chairman and former Vice-Chancellor of Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Professor Dr. Abdul Latif Masum, presided over the event. The keynote paper was presented by renowned professor Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan from the Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka. Participating in the discussion were Professor Dr. Nazmuzaman (University of Dhaka) and Professor Dr. Altaf Hossain (Jamalpur University).
The event commenced with a welcome speech from WHROB Secretary General Gazi Mosharrof Hossain and a greeting speech from WHROB Media Cell Head SM Shamsul Huda.
Distinguished guests included BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Abdus Salam Pintu, BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Abdus Salam, BNP National Executive Committee Member and former MP Nazim Uddin Alam, BNP National Executive Committee Member A.K.M. Mozammel Haque, Editor of Dainik Desherpotro Rufaida Panni, Director of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and former VP of Brojomohun University College Student Union Imam Zafar Shikder, former Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Obaidul Haque, Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal Nurur Rahman Jahangir, First Vice President of Bangladesh Swechchhasebak Dal Fakhrul Islam Robin, and former Secretary of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Yakub Khan Dulal.
Speakers emphasized the crucial role of politicians in safeguarding human rights and urged for effective measures to resolve the current political crisis. They stressed the importance of upholding justice, freedom of expression, and democratic values.
The event concluded with an open discussion, where attendees shared their perspectives on the present human rights situation and future course of action.
